Kuala Lumpur – On 5 March 2012, Al Rajhi Bank (Malaysia) became the first banking institution to be certified by SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd under MS 1900:2005 Quality Management Systems from Islamic Perspective. This achievement was also recorded in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) on 15 March 2012.

MS 1900:2005 specifies the requirements for a Shariah Compliant Quality Management Systems and this standard ensures that organizations are managed in accordance with the universally accepted values such as justice, honesty, truthfulness, timeliness and discipline.

 “It is indeed an honour for Al Rajhi Bank (Malaysia) to be listed in the Malaysia Book of Records for being the first banking institution certified under MS 1900:2005 Quality Management Systems from Islamic Perspective,” said En Selamat Hj Sirat, Director of Operations, Al Rajhi Bank.

“This would be our second achievement to be listed in MBOR, after having been recorded as the first to perform online banking transactions at the highest altitude, which was performed at the top of Mount Kinabalu in Sabah.”

In 2010, SIRIM QAS International certified 2 processes in the Bank; namely centralized customer’s signature(s) capturing and data updating for new account, and centralized credit processing for personal financing products covering application and approval.

To further enhance the level of efficiency and effectiveness of its operations, Al Rajhi Bank embarked on achieving ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems and MS 1900:2005 Quality Management Systems from Islamic Perspective in 2011.

“We took on this initiative as one of the approaches to measure and increase the level of efficiency of our services,” said En Selamat.

On 23 December 2011, several departments in Al Rajhi Bank were endorsed by SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd as Shariah Compliant Quality Management Systems under MS 1900:2005.

Under the ISO 9001 platform, the Bank could benefit from well defined and documented procedures to consistently improve the output of its service and productivity. The quality of its services is also constantly measured to achieve zero defect rates, thus saving cost.

Al Rajhi Bank (Malaysia) was recently accorded with the 2012 Malaysia Service to Care Award (MSCA) for the category of The Best of Malaysia Service to Care Award (Islamic Bank).
